Malacca Trip III

July 20, 2008 · No Comments

Summoned by Christina to Malacca for food, i nodded my head like kid agree to mum for the deal of sweet-and-study. Yeah! Off we went with gusto. Kim joined too!

Christina pretty familiar what’s should try here. 1st stop, we tried the Siew Yuk Rice which was not in my list, neither my ‘Bible’ nor blogger news.

None at this alleyway……………….a few steps after this…………….

Crowded than ever u imagine………..

Both side of the seat were occupied and all were selling the same foods; Roast stuff, Curry Chicken Rice and some veges.

Christina forgotten which is the one, yet it not a problem for us to point out. Definitely the 1st stall on the right hand side. Blatant answer from the crowd and non-stop ta-bauing by passer-bys.

Char Siew…………….

Lean but not dry and tough with ‘Q’ of every bite. Sweetness was from the honey poured over later, still was not able to cover the not fresh porky taste which i ‘yuak!!!!’ and stopped for this.

Siew Yuk and Siew Cheong…………….

Siew Cheong was rather firm bite compare to other i had. Still, detected little porky taste too. Siew Yuk was the best with pretty crispy on the fried surface.

Based on Christina, what’s make this stall special was the curry sauce given to go with the rice apart from the roast stuff’s essence. However, i prefer the original serve.

Braised cabbages was best suited to my liking; soft and fresh while ability to wash off the oiliness.

Location: Bunga Raya (further down after Tan Chong)

Price: Rm16.80 for all

I had 3 recommended Cendol on 1st and 2nd trip, left this only! Must try!

I have particular fondness to this miniature eatery; regardless of its cartoon-like name and size. I always links to Donald and Daisy for its name; Donald and Lily and Snow White and Seven Dwarfs for its tiny size. One might easily neglect its existence should u dont know its fame. I couldnt imagine how pack was the eatery, yet people still flocks to its specialty and willing to wait just to sample its food.

Due to the popular demand, for those who just want to quench their thirst with Cendol only, downstair is only allowed to sit. Upstair only for food.

Three of us even enjoying the Cendol by standing outside. What’s 1st time experience i had. Anyhow, the Cendol was not the best, but the slipperly smooth and springy jade green cendol was the best i had. Topped up another Rm1.10 for sago which also different from others with ‘QQ’ texture albeit some of them were uncooked. What’s minus the point is the concoction between Gula Melaka and Santan. Not as thick as compare to the others.

Location: 31, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Hereen Street)

Tel: 606-2848907

Price: Rm2.50 Cendol with Sago

Pork Sate! Pork Sate! Christina keep on mentioning ever since our journey. Must try! Some more, i fancy sate very much.

Not much diners by the time we were there; which Christina used to have to lie up for quite long just to get a seat. Diners are needless to order as the serving will came to the table automatically, even just after the last stick of sate finished until u have to exclaim ’stop’.

Pork, Chicken and Intestine sate……………

Rm0.60 per stick is considered a standard price, yet so little for this which i opined slightly on the steep side.

Rm98.20??? We were flabbergasted upon hearing the sum that have to pay just for sate at the next table beside us. Even themselves also shocked.

Back to the sate, i still prefer the Paloh and Traders with decent marination. This was just plain with mild fragrance of turmeric only. Not as chewy as Paloh one, soft which one might wonder whether is pork. I dun feel any specialty of it but yes for the peanut gravy. Genuine Hainanese style with the participation of pineapple. 1st time i have. The peanut gravy made not spicy to adapt the public’s taste which prefer spicy of i definitely denied for it. Yet, the sourness from the pineapple had distinguished it from the crowd. It’s a great experience for me.

Ketupat…………….1st time i had but the filling was the common rice-pressed. Ok for this!

Definitely suited to Christina’s liking………………….

Review…………………….

Price: Rm16.80 for all

I try to forgot it but so hard! I had it before, hence i wanna reserve space for others food which yet to try. Still, i excused myself by saying that Christina and Kim havnt try or even never seen this before. Haha! I leaded them to there eventually.

Yes! Nadeje Pattisserie again. Name which even have some difficulties for me to read. This round, i went for the Chocolate Banana flavour.

Good! Quality and taste still maintained and consistent to my previous experience. Paper-thin of crepes sandwiched chocolate Banana creams, fit sweetness. 2 tries, i like the Original flavour.

Mocha Slice…………….

Kim tried this which appeared to be abnormal for me when u come not for their specialty. Anyhow, this was not bad too. Decent and moist chocolate cake with Mocha cream.

There is a rule to order at least a drinks when dining here even though plain water for us would do. Hence, we went for Long Black. 应酬咯!

Nothing to complain should the crew provides prompt service. We waited for at least 20 minutes for them to approach and take order. Then, what for we paid for the service tax?

Location: G23 & 25, Jalan PM4, Plaza Mahkota

Tel: 06-283 8750

Price: Rm 3.00 Long Black, Rm8.50 Banana Chocolate Mille Crepe, Rm8.50 Mocha Slice

We stuffed, still Christina insisted to try this Chicken Rice.

It not as famous as Famosa, Chung Wah or Hoe Kee which is yet to try, still it was quite good. Better than Famosa and on par with Chung Wah.

I have no ideal Heng got relationship with Hoe Kee, hence my judgement was not affected as what Christina  told us.

Heng caters other Hainanese dishes too……………….

Black Bean Soup…………..a bit oily but none of MSG used.

Braised Cabbages……………………like it as well.

An essential condiment to go with chicken rice…………Chung Wah’s tastier.

I would say this was better than Chung Wah which former was a bit at the dry side.

Chicken was ok with the texture; gravy to accompany with was in thicken form which different from Chung Wah.  I prefer the former.

If u had tried what i mentioned, no harm to give Heng a try.

危险地带……..@ Ben & May II- Mutiara Complex

July 17, 2008 · No Comments

当是’斩草‘ 的时候 (means 剪头发,本人称之为斩草, haha!),我就会顺到来这里!

危险地带, 奶油之地, 但是我的最爱!爱它的奶油香,略带甜味,陶醉极了!

Complimentary Winter Melon Soup……………….ok!

金沙鸡肉饭………………..with salads, fried eggs and sambal

This was the new add-on dish.  Cubes of fried chicken stir fried with butter and topped with chicken floss and granules of cooked yolk. Yummy! I like the sweetness from the marinate, if not the batter of the coating, plus some saltiness from the chicken floss; what’s a good combination!

Complaint? Yes! Seldom for me to not complain. 1, 2, 3 and 4. Believe or not? I got only 4 pieces of chicken cubes. No. I shall call it chicken pieces instead of cubes.

Milky Tea to cap off. Again, sorry! Fail!

Location: Mutiara Complex, Jln Ipoh

Price: Rm7.90 金沙鸡肉饭, Rm2.00 Milky Tea

Is It As Purported???@ River Cafe- Chulan Square

July 14, 2008 · No Comments

Is it as the fact saying? Taste, portion, value were commented satisfyingly.

Residenced at the pocket-burning’s row of dining places; River Cafe is a simple and yet cosy eatery. Air-cond equipped and the must-have newspapers is indeed a good replacement with the hawker stall around. What’s i like the most is the different languages of newspaper provided which able to pamper myself in the daily news while enjoying food.

Price is the 1st element abound whenever dining here. An express set lunch may cost u Rm25 while executive set lunch may cost u nearly Rm45 per pax. Hence, when i got news the opening of this worth and low price cafe. I bound here the next day.

The piece de resistance of the Nasi Lemak Special and Fried Rice, i opted the former.

Similar to 888 Cafe, the serve came with quick-bolied kangkung and papadam apart from the main and standard side dishes.

Viewing from the basic, rice should be started. Fragrance of ginger activated my nostrils followed by mild santan flavour. Marks added with the warm, fluffy which just off from the rice cooker. Portion was nice which enough for big eater.

U might misunderstand the pale Sambal is gravy, yet u will realise the onslaught of fieriness to ur tougue.

Set aside the oiliness from the Chicken Rendang’s gravy, it did quite delicious! Still, kindly clean off the furs thoroughly as it put me off!

Cham; my favourite was ok! Not so milky but nearly to my requirement’s of ‘kau’.

Location: Chulan Square, Jalan Raja Chulan

Price: Rm2.00 Cham, Rm7.90 Nasi Lemak Special

三个颜色的茶+两个颜色的面………@板面馆- Kota Damansara

July 13, 2008 · No Comments

Another add on to the Pan Mien group; 板面馆 located at my favourite makan spot……………

Specialized in Hakka food and Chinese Dumpling as well…………….

Craving for Pan Mien of i definitely went for its masterpiece albeit it did provide others like abacus and 擂茶 which i yet to try before.

三色奶茶………………was the only attractive item to me………….

I thought the uniqueness should be presented and yet y they hide it by using the white porcelain instead of the translucent cup? Nevertheless, taste was awesome! Milky and well mix in between of coffee and tea. Great job!

干捞板面 with twi colour…………….

Sadly, non of my favourite style. Hence, i just went for the basic dry style.

This appeared to be abnormal compared to the usual. The pan mien came with twi colour; Spinach and the normal type which the Taiwanese so called ‘Q’ with little translucent. This set the difference from the local of firm bite.

Aside from the cholesterol-ladening minced meats and anchovies, healthy mushrooms and 树仔菜, what made me fond on it was the fish cracker. Decent fish flavour but not fishy, crispy but not oily which hold to the last bite even the gravy had wetted through them.

Location: No. 12-1, Jalan PJU 5/7, Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara

Price: Rm4.50 三色奶茶 Rm7.30 板面, Rm0.40 Towel (Now i only realized the drinks was so expensive and they charged the price for towel, but worth la!)

Broke the record………..@ Latest Recipe- Le Meridien

July 11, 2008 · No Comments

It broke my record; broke the highest charges but let down instead, broke the lowest price which stand out of the crowd. Latest Recipe; which was keen to go after hearing the goods of it. And tonight, off we went!

Elaine; was my counterpart this round. We were thunderstruck by the strict guard just before entering to the carpark. Checking! 五星级就是五星级!

Friday night; crowded than the usual and fortunately we had made reservation. Before started to attack the food, showed u all the comfy ambiance and the food.

Salads sections……………..

Tapas……………I missed these as only realized at the end where we already stuffed to brim………….

Starters…………………i like the smoked fish………….

Cheese…………………still couldnt tolerant the pungent taste of the Blue Cheese……….

Teppanyaki………………

Baked and Fried tidbits……………..

Western section………………..

Indian section………………

The friendly and funny chef made waffle personally for us……………so good!

Not forgotten the children-attack fondue………………

The star-of-the-post; Teppanyaki Ice-Cream……………..

Dun misunderstood that we were transported to the Jaya Jusco with all the dried foods being put in the translucent drawer and ready to be picked up by customer based on the amount they require.

Over 40 toppings just beside the Teppanyaki Ice Cream counter which convenient for diners to choose for. Ranged from nuts, candies, gummy bears, to name a fews.

Desserts; western included Tiramisu, Pannacotta, Chocolate Pudding, Cheese Cake………..and local delights which are Pisang Goreng, Bubur Gandum, Kuih-Muih………………

Dun mess ur shirt with ur saliva. And now is the show time of what we had…………..

Started with salads which was the best mix for me this round (previously 乱乱 mix and caused weird taste. Haha!) And the fresh of the greens was assured.

Seafood; Oyster, prawn, mussel and mantis………….

Guess what? Not the oyster or others to mention but prawns was deserved to highlight. So fresh which i had the 1st round at KL with natural sweetness from it. Thumbs-up for it!

Teppanyaki Seafood with chunks of Scallop in white sauce. We licked the sauce! Yummy!

Teppanyaki Beef…………Tender!

Dim Sum; BBQ Chicken Pau, Xiao Loong Bao, Har Kau, BBQ Chicken Pastry, Fried Onion with Spinach

No good for Dim Sum which not steamed and have it immediately. Still, these were still acceptable. And i like the Fried Onion with Spinach which appeared unique to me. Just a bit oily!

Grilled Beef with red White Brown Sauce………….

Not bad! Medium done which maintain the moist and best served with the decent red wine sauce.

Squid Ink Spaghetti…………………..

Spotted the ‘black black threads’ circling in the steel bowl, i straight order a portion.

‘我以为是木耳!’ Laughed me til die! Elaine’s good imagination made me stop for the intake while waiting my laugh stopped. Tell me, if u r able to get such a long black fungus on earth. Haha!

1st time i had which left some good impression on it. Didnt taste any fishy smell from the swimming creature which i thought was. Or perhaps was the friendly chef’s good kung fu with all the condiments mixed up and yet resulted a good outcome for us. Lovely! Just complained the oil emerged on the surface albeit the olive oil is good for health.

Papaddoms with Palak xxxx…………..

I found myself having the difficulties to remember the name of this dip. And yet, it was so good which actually is a combination of fresh cream, cheese and herbs. Nice to go with the crispy papaddoms.

Indian foods with lamb curry, grilled tenggiri and cream chicken but the best was the rice. Fluffy and decent of the spices used to cook with. Best vote for Elaine. Yet, i still sticked to Shangri-la despite the rest was let down.

We didnt go for local and Chinese foods as those were too common and our quota was almost to the limit. Hence, reserved some space to cap off the dinner. Dessert time!

Puff and Apple Strudel………….

My blog fans of u should know i dun really like fruits to be used in dessert. Hence, no trace of apple Strudel in my record, right? But no harm to try since we have paid for it.

Believe me! This good too! Custard cream instead of the tad sweet apple filling (r they wrongly put the sign?) wrapped up by the crispy, paper-thin and buttery pastry was superb delicious! Haha! What a good try!

Vanilla Cheese Tart and Mango Souffle…………..

I liked the former which cheesy and even double gorgeous with Vanilla sauce to go with. Mango Souffle was not my type which fluffy in the filling, yet i think it was the souffle’s characteristics, just the matter u like it or not.

Chocolate Pudding……………

Again, this was fantabulous! The combination was not sweet at all which suited to my liking. All lied to the bit taste of the chocolate filling. Accompanied with the precious Vanilla sauce if u wish to boost the flavour. However, sincerely suggested to work out more to the chocolate filling which i found it a bit rough.

Not Marshmallow, not Strawberry or grape but playful with Marble Cake and Chocolate Cake. Oh my lovely fondue!

Belgian Waffle…………….

It’s our honour that the waffle was done by the chef personally again for us. Served hot with sweetness from the honey, melting combo created tx to the ice cream and the heat which remained innerly. Crispy and warm! Would be better if the waffle was lighter and airy which not too heavy after the mains.

My production with all nuts being added nearly to the brim with coconut and vanilla teppanyaki ice cream……..Satisfying albeit nothing special of the ice cream’s taste!

Verdict? So tired of my mouth continuously of exercising to clear off the nuts. However, the feeling was the mouthful and mouthful of nuts was so enjoying, especially with my favourite Macadamia. Fainted!

Gals, forget about the award-winning or the famous chain. Give urself a chance to try something new always!

酸吧了……@Garden Vegetarian Restaurant- Damansara Utama

July 9, 2008 · No Comments

Too much meat this few days til fed up. Plus, mind was blank of what to have for dinner, i just simply walked in here.

I have penchant to compare food whenever dining at the same range or category of the dining place. Hence, to compare, i opt for Assam Fish.

Honey kamquat……………很大杯!

Vege Assam Fish………………

‘Sour’ is the only word to describe the dish. I should mention to increase the spiciness upon order. No good for this and definitely down to Blue Boy.

Indians are welcoming too………….

Location: Damansara Utama

Price: Rm3.50 Honey Kamquat, Rm6.90 Assam Fish

Mission Completed!@ Yik Mun III- Hartamas Shopping Centre

July 9, 2008 · No Comments

Yes! I back for its masterpiece eventually.

包你满意? 有所保留咯!

I miss its Ginger Milk Tea but this round was a mess. Non of milk tea taste!

Curry Chicken Pau………….

I thought the filling is with some curry sauce, but it’s in Chicken Rendang type albeit taste no bad. Yet sorry again i dun like the sponge form plus some sweetness of the Pau.

However, if possible and allowed, i will go to its root to search for the fresh and steaming Pau.

With this, i rest my case on Yik Mun. Haha!

Location: Hartamas Shopping Centre

Price: Rm3.20 Ginger Milk Tea, Rm2.00 Curry Chicken Pau

鬼佬的巧克力香蕉蛋糕……@Cafe Le Passione- Hartamas Shopping Centre

July 9, 2008 · No Comments

A brand new cafe operated by foreigner; Cafe Le Passione located at the Plaza Ground Floor………..

Serving fresh-baked bread and cakes daily…………..

Cakes again dragged me here; Tiramisu (alcohol or non-alcohol), Carrot Cake, Mascarpone, Cheese Cake………

I wanted to try Mascarpone initially as it seems unique among the all. Yet, Mr. Jones who supervised the outlet and as the MD of the company (only realized upon looked at the name card from him) advised me to take the Chocolate Banana. Of course, i went for it.

Chocolate Banana……………..

Similar to CPK in terms of the taste, aroma and texture. What’s worth to mention was the thick fudge. Essential for the cake and yet not painstakingly sweet. Just a bit pricy for such a size.

Location: K-9, Plaza Ground Floor Hartamas Shopping Centre (behind Dessert’s Bar)

Price: Rm8.00 Chocolate Banana

Pie for Pie Lover…….@Mr. Pieman- Hartamas Shopping Centre

July 9, 2008 · No Comments

Chanced upon this little kiosk from last visit, i came back purposely for it.

Mr. Pieman; uprooted from New Zealand cater Chicken and Beef Pie in pastry and mashed potato form. Apple pie is available for dessert too.

Rotorua Chicken………….

Pie lover like me definitely wouldnt let off. Hence, i tried the mini Rotorua Chicken which cost for Rm2 only. Fresh, soft-cooked veges, minced chicken in pepper white sauce shelled by the buttery and crunchy pastry. Yummy! This was better a lot than the so-called signature.

Price: Rm2 Rotorua Chicken (small)
